The health professions in the German-speaking region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the so-called D-A-CH area, are in dynamic phases of their professionalization due to their shift towards education at universities. In addition, the needs of current and future health care require all health professionals (HPs) to have collaborative competencies and a willingness to work together. This willingness and the challenge of co-creation of health systems by all health professionals is a good starting point for the evolution of the professions. So what must professional profiles, role beliefs - in short, modern professionalization strategies - be like so that, at the beginning of the 21st century, education and professional practice do not remain stuck in old thought structures and templates and in monodisciplinary „silo thinking.” What does it mean in concrete terms for the professionalization of professions that health care professions must (be able to) increasingly work together? Doesn’t professionalization so far tend to mean exclusivity and isn’t a stronger demarcation between the professions then the consequence? Against the background of professionalization through academization, do university studies not tend to aim at a stronger demarcation from other disciplines and professions? Professionalization includes exclusive competencies and specialized methods against the background of one's own profession-related action sciences. At the three-country meeting of the VFWG in Bern on 5–6 May 2022, this area of tension was put up for discussion in a World Café based on four theses. Nursing and therapy professions to the universities! : documentation of the online symposia «Are dual degree programs in midwifery a model for the therapy professions?» and «Bachelor degree programs in Austria and Switzerland: models for the therapy and nursing professions in Germany?» held on March 18, and September 8, 2021

Der Verein zur Förderung der Wissenschaft in den Gesundheitsberufen VFWG veranstaltete zwei Online-Symposien zum Stand der Akademisierung in Deutschland, wo lediglich die Hebammen dank EU-Vorschriften seit 2020 an Fachhochschulen ausgebildet werden. Für die Pflege- und Therapieberufe gilt nach wie vor die Modellklausel, die bis 2024 verlängert wurde. In Österreich und der Schweiz sind die Ausbildungen für die Therapieberufe vollständig an den Fachhochschulen angesiedelt, für diejenigen für die Pflege und die medizinisch-technischen Berufe teilweise. Das erste Symposium erörterte, ob sog. duale Studiengänge ein Modell sein könnten für die Therapieberufe in Deutschland. Das zweite Symposium fragte, ob der Weg, den Österreich und die Schweiz eingeschlagen haben, Argumente liefern kann für eine Akademisierung der Gesundheitsberufe in Deutschland. Critical physiotherapy: a ten-year retrospective

Critical physiotherapy has been a rapidly expanding field over the last decade and could now justifiably be called a professional sub-discipline. In this paper we define three different but somewhat interconnected critical positions that have emerged over the last decade that share a critique of physiotherapy’s historical approach to health and illness, while also diverging in the possibilities for new forms of practice and thinking. These three positions broadly align with three distinctive philosophies: approaches that emphasize lived experience, social theory, and a range of philosophies increasingly referred to as the “posts”. In this paper we discuss the origins of these approaches, exploring the ways they critique contemporary physiotherapy thinking and practice. We offer an overview of the key principles of each approach and, for each in turn, suggest readings from key authors. We conclude each section by discussing the limits of these various approaches, but also indicate ways in which they might inform future thinking and practice. We end the paper by arguing that the various approaches that now fall under the rubric of critical physiotherapy represent some of the most exciting and opportune ways we might (re)think the future for the physiotherapy profession and the physical therapies more generally.Peer reviewe

Was ist Physiotherapiewissenschaft?

Auf die Frage, was die Wissenschaft der Physiotherapie ist, gibt es derzeit keine zufriedenstellende Antwort. Das weist einleitend bereits auf das kritische Fazit des Beitrags hin. Eine wissenschaftliche Disziplin ist in der Lage, eine Antwort darauf zu geben, welches ihr Gegenstand, ihre Methoden des Erkenntnisgewinns und ihr Geltungsbereich sind. Grundsätzlich ist es sinnvoll, sich zunächst mit wissenschaftstheoretischen Grundannahmen zur Formierung wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen und deren Bezügen zu einer beruflichen Praxis sowie deren eingebunden Sein in eine gesellschaftliche Realität auseinanderzusetzen. Ziel ist es, sich Bedarfen einer physiotherapeutischen Disziplinbildung zuzuwenden und diese darauffolgend an der Realität zu prüfen. Dieser Dreischritt (Klärung wissenschaftstheoretischer Grundannahmen, definieren der Ziele von Theorienentwicklung und ihre empirische Überprüfung) soll im Folgenden mittels einer kritischen Position in Form zweier Thesen, die zur Diskussion gestellt werden, skizziert werden.
